A fire extinguisher is designed to eliminate the presence of a fire in the most effective and immediate method possible. It is a safety equipment that needs to operate in unpredictable situations by a wide range of users. Therefore it is important that the design of fire extinguishers accommodates a variety of users, however the design of current extinguishers has relatively stayed the same since the invention of the fire extinguishers. This results in some problems and room for improvement.
During the development of this design, I performed a series of user testing and analysis. These tests were used to determine which mechanism was the most intuitive and effective in adjusting the angle of the nozzle. While doing these tests I also observed different ergonomic factors that affected the use of the product which helped me develop and refine my design to suit the needs of the users.
